Alyia is a tenacious fighter for families, communities, and equity. She ran for City Council because she wanted to help Alexandria get results for its residents and businesses. And that’s what she’s done, successfully leading the charge and introducing the memos and budget amendments necessary to:

Expand access to affordable housing by increasing dedicated funding by nearly 5 million dollars
Support an equitable COVID-19 recovery by securing half a million dollars to support the growth of diverse businesses
Invest in youth by introducing a call to action on youth safety and resilience, expanding out-of-school-time activities and the Summer Youth Employment Program, and waiving fees for extremely low-income youth for summer programs at recreation centers
Expand the availability of early care and education services
Build new schools and modernize existing facilities
Promote youth mental health by developing a pilot program to increase access to safe spaces at recreation centers
Create a central coordinator position to support immigrants and refugees
Provide welcoming environments for mothers and families that choose to breastfeed via policies, dedicated locations, and other supports
Pass two historic collective bargaining agreements for police and firefighters that make significant increases in employee pay and staffing
Give public safety officers the tools–like body-worn cameras – they need to do their jobs while building community trust and accountability
Fund critical infrastructure such as stormwater management and flood mitigation, increased transit options, and broadband expansion
Support access to quality job opportunities for Alexandrians through prevailing wage and labor agreements
Invest in the first Office of Climate Action to intentionally address intersections between health and climate
Remove racially restrictive covenants from city-owned property
